Presented is a Joe DiMaggio signature on a swatch of a New York Yankees jersey, presented in a 12 x 15-inch framed display. The Baseball Hall of Famer has signed his name in black marker in the upper left over the navy-blue interlocking “NY” logo patch. The DiMaggio-signed swatch is displayed in a silver metal and glass frame. It wasn't until 1909 that the New York Yankees changed to the familiar interlocking “NY” that would be the team logo and would continue to be the cap insignia until today. The interlocking NY was originally designed by Tiffany & Co. and struck on a medal of honor presented in 1877 to John McDowell, a New York City police officer shot in the line of duty. The logo on the breast of the home jersey first appeared there in 1912 and after disappearing in 1917, returned for good in 1936, although there have been many small but apparent changes through the years. In the jersey logo, the “Y” is larger, the letters blockier, and the curves more exaggerated. The Yankees added pinstripes to their home uniforms on a permanent basis soon after Jacob Ruppert bought the team in 1915. DiMaggio played his entire 13-year career (1936-1942, 1946-1951) with the Yankees. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A25488).
