original 1901 University of South Carolina Gamecocks SIGNED photograph of USC left guard (linemen) Louis "Lou" Seigman Ehrich, Junior (1882-1933). Mounted oval portrait of Ehrich wearing his football uniform, taken in a photography studio in Columbia, South Carolina (photographer not identified on this card). The back of the gray mount card is signed as follows: "Louis S. Ehrich Jr. (Left guard) S. C. C. '02 for Robert Freeman." He signed this photo to the 1901 USC football team captain Robert Freeman. Photograph is in very good condition with some brown spots (foxing) to the photograph itself.
If you look real close, you can see Mr. Ehrich's sweater has SC on the front in letters. Ehrich was a Jewish athlete playing on a major Southern football team in 1901, the time of Jim Crow laws.
