A notorious tough signer, if not something of a recluse, Neil Armstrong (d.2012), placed a black ink signature on the east panel of this toned Official American League Lee MacPhail baseball. On July 20, 1969, the "Space Race" between the United States and the Soviet Union reached its peak when Neil Armstrong and the crew of Apollo 11 landed on the moon. While astronaut Michael Collins orbited the moon in the command module, Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended to the lunar surface in the "Lunar Excursion Module," or LEM. They were the first human beings to walk on another celestial body, with Armstrong being the first man to walk on the moon, closely followed by Aldrin, thus fulfilling the late President John F. Kennedy's mission statement that America would land on the moon before the end of the decade. The ball is accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA for Armstrong's signature. Please note, there is one unidentifiable signature on the ball, as per PSA/DNA.
