President John F. Kennedy Single Signed Baseball JFK First Pitch 1962 JSA
$249,995.00
John F. Kennedy Single Signed Baseball.
This ball is, in our opinion, the finest JFK single signed baseball in existence. This ball originates from former JFK White House staff member and Kennedy friend David F. Powers. Mr. Powers was one of Kennedy’s top and most trusted aides throughout Kennedy’s entire political career. He joined with Kennedy for his 1946 House of Representatives campaign and continued on as a top aide throughout Kennedy’s presidency. Powers’ formal title during the Kennedy presidency was “Special White House Assistant to the President”. Following the presidency Powers served as curator of the Kennedy Museum in Boston, Massachusetts. He was also the coauthor (along with fellow White House aide Kenneth P. O’Donnell) of the highly acclaimed book entitled “Johnny, We Hardly Knew Ye” about JFK which was published in 1972. Powers accompanied Kennedy to the ball games which Kennedy attended on Opening Day in Washington. Since the days of President Taft it has become something of a tradition for the current President to attend the Opening Day Ceremonies of the local Washington, D.C. team and to throw out the first ball as part of the ceremonies. According to Powers, this is the very ball which Kennedy threw out at the 1962 Opening Day Ceremonies on April 9th preceding the Opening Day game between the Washington Senators and the Detroit Tigers. Perhaps what is most amazing about this ball, in addition to its incredible provenance, is the fact that it is accompanied by a photograph showing President Kennedy signing this very ball. The photo is so perfectly clear in detail that close inspection actually allows the ball Kennedy is signing in the photo and this ball to be matched up perfectly. Rarely is any autographed item of any kind accompanied by such extraordinary proof of authenticity. This is a White House Press Photo taken on that very day and was supplied with the ball directly from Powers. The iron clad provenance and the accompanying White House Press Photo make this ball unique and, in our opinion, without question the finest of the very few absolutely known to be authentic JFK signed baseballs known to exist. Official American League (Cronin) baseball. Excellent condition. Photo is Mint. This originally sold in 1997. I posted a photo of the original auction listing.
