As he did many times during his illustrious career, Hall of Famer Derek Jeter made history during the Yankees' 10-4 loss at Yankee Stadium to the Baltimore Orioles on Sept. 11th, 2009. Jeter cracked a third-inning single off Chris Tillman to surpass Lou Gehrig's seven-decade hit record with 2,722 hits. Fans, who endured a rain delay and less than stellar conditions, rose in applause to honor Jeter's accomplishment. Jeter later added the 2,723rd hit during the loss. This third base, used during the second inning, displays excellent evidence of game use and contains dirt stains across the top of the base. "2009 New York Yankees" plaques flank each side. The underside of the Schutt base features the inscription "9-11-09 3rd Base," inscribed in black marker. Jeter placed a flowing black marker signature and the inscription "2722" across the base's top. The base comes with an LOA from Steiner (97215) for game use and an MLB Authenticated hologram (LH685006) for game use, signature, and inscription.
