Derek Jeter "The Dive" Game Signed Game Used Baseball July 1, 2004 Steiner COA

$1,995.00

Presented is an Official Major League Allan Huber Selig baseball used between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox on July 1, 2004, at Yankee Stadium in one of the best regular season games between the two bitter rivals, and when Derek Jeter dove into the stands, making one of the greatest catches in baseball history. The excitement started in the bottom of the first inning when Boston's Hall of Fame starting pitcher Pedro Martinez drilled Yankees' slugger Gary Sheffield with a fastball. Following New York home runs from Tony Clark and Jorge Posada and a Boston home run from Manny Ramirez, the Yankees led 3-2. Boston would manufacture another run to tie the score, eventually sending the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th inning, Boston was threatening with runners on second and third base. With two outs, Trot Nixon slapped a ball in the air behind third base. It looked like it would dunk in for a base hit until Derek Jeter came flying in to make the play, diving into the stands in the process. Jeter, who was bleeding from his face, walked off the field with a trainer and was eventually removed from the game. Boston would go on to take a 4-3 lead on another Manny Ramirez home run. Down to their last out, Rubén Sierra singled to center field. Miguel Cairo would drive in Sierra with a double in the gap to tie the score, and John Flaherty would end the game with a walk-off single. Final score: Yankees 5, Red Sox 4. The offered baseball exhibits light wear. Derek Jeter has signed the offered baseball, penning his flowing signature in black ink across the sweet spot, including the inscription "7-1-04 The Dive." Accompanying the ball is an LOA and a COA from Steiner Sports for authenticity of game use and signature.
