Atlanta Braves home jersey worn by Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews (manager from 1972 to 1974) during the historic 1974 season in which Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's long-standing all-time home run record. Graded A10 by MEARS, the white-and-blue knit jersey is lettered "Braves" across the front and features the number "41" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in blue-on-white tackle twill (with red Swiss embroidered edging). The Braves "feather" emblem adorns each sleeve. Both the year and jersey size ("74 44") are chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag in the collar. Also located in the collar, directly above the tag, is a "Wilson 44" label. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays moderate wear. A member of baseball's elite 500 Home Run Club, Mathews retired after the 1968 season with 512 home runs, 1,453 RBI, and a .271 lifetime average. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1978. Graded A10 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with no deductions). Full LOA from MEARS.
