The 1973 Notre Dame football squad finished the regular season undefeated at 11-0, but was only ranked fourth in the Coaches' Poll. They wrapped things up in bowl season, however, by defeating top-ranked Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, vaulting them to first place in the AP Poll. It was Ara Parseghian's second national championship with Notre Dame.
