The LA Kings made hockey history when they traded for Wayne Gretzky in 1988. The addition of “The Great One” brought a new level of success to the franchise that paid off when the club finished first in the Smythe Division with a 46–24–10. Gretzky won the league’s Art Ross Trophy for most points while Dave Taylor was awarded the Masterton Trophy that season. The Kings would go one to lose a tough Division Title to Gretzky’s old team, the Edmonton Oilers, but to this day the 1990-91 Kings team remains the only one to win a regular season division title in the franchise’s history.
