Freddie Lindstrom's 13-year career in Major League Baseball may seem brief, but nine of those years were spent in the baseball Mecca of the world as a member of the New York Giants. His accomplishments in the Fall Classic are what endeared him to Giants fans throughout; he appeared as the youngest player ever to take part in the 1924 World Series as a precocious 18-year-old during the 1924 World Series, where he batted .333 in seven games, including four hits off of legendary hurler Walter Johnson in Game 5! His best season came in 1928, where "Lindy" batted .358 with a league-leading 231 hits and added 14 home runs and 107 RBI. In 1976, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by way of the Veteran's Committe.
Presented is a first baseman's glove used by Freddie Lindstrom circa 1930. Originally a third basemen, time and a series of injuries forced Lindstrom to transfer to the less-taxing position of first base. The glove features a vintage buckle fastened wrist strap and exhibits outstanding game wear, most notably in the pocket, face of the web, and throughout the body of the glove. All identifiable manufacturer's stamping is no longer visible. The glove is accompanied by a postcard written by Lindstrom and sent to the Baseball Hall of Fame, indicating this glove was loaned to Cooperstown from 1976 to 1980. Lindstrom has penned his flowing signature on the postcard in black ink along with the inscription "Please return to home address!" The glove comes with an LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00871) for game use, and the postcard comes with a sticker and COA from Beckett (B82214) for signature.
