Incredible 1947 Johnny Mize Signed Game Used Baseball Letter From Aunt JSA COA

After losing three seasons to military service during World War II, Johnny Mize returned to the Giants in 1946, and a broken toe caused him to fall one short of the home run title, won by Ralph Kiner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1947 he rebounded to hit 51 home runs and tie Kiner for the league lead. He also led in runs and RBI, and became the only player to strike out fewer than fifty times while hitting fifty home runs. Mize's 1947 totals in runs, home runs and RBI were all career highs. Nicknamed Big Jawn and The Big Cat, Mize played in the MLB for 15 seasons between 1936 and 1953, losing three seasons to military service during World War II. Mize was a ten-time All-Star and late in his career, he played with the Yankees when they won five consecutive World Series. Mize retired in 1953 with 359 career home runs and a .312 batting average.

This baseball offered has been stored away in a private family collection since it was received in 1947. The National League ball has been signed in blue ink on the side panel and displays beautifully. The baseball also shows great evidence of game use, and comes with one of the most impressive lines of provenance on a Game Used baseball form 1947. The ball comes with a Letter from Miss Lizzie Loudermilk, the aunt of Johnny Mize. The letter is written to Sheppard and comes in the original envelope dated 'Oct 1947". In the letter Lizzie mentions that she has seen Johnny several times during the season and at the end of the season, he gave her a ball he used during the season. The baseball is an Official National League Baseball and Mize was with the Giants of the National League in 1947.
