The first right-handed hitter to win back-to-back American League batting titles since Joe DiMaggio, Boston Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra appeared destined for Cooperstown before wrist and Achilles Heel injuries derailed his career. During a season in which he paced the circuit with 56 doubles and became the fastest BoSox player to 1,000 career hits, Garciaparra wore this 2002 Red Sox home jersey. The white knit button-down garment features “RED SOX” arched across the chest in red-on-blue twill and “5” sewn to the back in like fashion. Red piping lines the collar and button path, while the left front tail is home to a “Russell Athletic” label, a “2002” strip tag and a size “48” fabric content flap tag. On the right sleeve, there is no black armband or number “9,” suggesting that they have either been removed or that the jersey was worn prior to Ted Williams’ July 5 passing. The item shows nice game use and comes with a signed LOA from game used expert Dave Miedema.
