Maryann Filangieri of Hicksville, New York was a true sports fan who passed away in June of this past year.  A passionate fan of the Yankees, Packers and Islanders, Filangieri wrote letters to members of the Yankees as a young girl in the 1940s and stored their many responses in a beautiful scrapbook (Lot 967 elsewhere in this auction).  From the team’s beginning in 1972, she followed the New York Islanders, and became the first president of the New York Islanders Booster Club to hold that role for two terms.

As a long-time Islanders season ticket holder, Filangieri became close with a variety of players, and obtained a large and varied collection of game-worn and signed  jerseys.

1987-88 Maska brand New York Islanders road jersey, worn by Mikko Makela.  Exhibiting heavy signs of use, the jersey has been signed and inscribed in white paint men "To MaryAnn - To My Step Mother - All The Best."  Makela also signed the jersey a second time in black fiber tip marker on the numbers on the reverse.  The jersey exhibits considerable jse including stretches and pulls at the sleeve and shirt tail.  Authenticated and graded A10 by MEARS.
