Historic Jackie Robinson First All Star Game Signed Baseball W/ Racist Cross Out

Sold out
$6,995.00

Offered is this Official National League Ford C. Frick baseball signed by 30 members of the 1949 All-Stars from both the American and National League. The All-Star game was held at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, the only time ever at the venerable ballpark, which saw the American League out slug their National League counterparts 11-7. Hall of Famers Stan Musial and Ralph Kiner, who are two of the signatures on this baseball, homered in the game. This game was also notable as Jackie Robinson’s first All-Star Game.

The east panel of this ball with the Spalding stamp has the signatures of Hall of Famers Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson and George Kell, along with Cass Michaels and Sid Gordon. The original owner was a racist and he crossed out Jackie Robinson’s signature in blue pen, but his signature is still very much readable. Jacky was the only African American on the ball and the racist owner was not happy about that. The south panel has Willard Marshall, Bob Dillinger, Walker Cooper, Hall of Famer Pee Wee Reese, Andy Seminick, Hall of Famer Johnny Mize, Dick Wertz and Dom DiMaggio. The sweet spot has Marty Marion and Hall of Famer Lou Boudreau. The west panel has Vic Raschi, Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio, Stan Musial, Roy Campanella and Ralph Kiner and two other signatures. Also on the west panel is the inscription “1950 ALL STAR” which was penned in an unknown hand. Despite the inscription, this ball has been determined to be from the 1949 All-Stars. The north panel has the signatures of Andy Pafko, Burt Shotton, Hall of Famers Warren Spahn and Red Schoendienst, Dale Mitchell, Hall of Famer Joe Gordon, Alex Kellner and Billy Goodman. This ball comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA09024) for the signatures.
