One of the essential cogs of "The Big Red Machine," catcher Johnny Bench is considered one of the top backstops to ever play the game. Not only was he a defensive gem that garnered 10 gold-glove awards but also a potent weapon with the bat, leading the National League in homers in his two MVP seasons while topping the RBI list three times in leading the Reds to consecutive World Series championships in 1975 and '76. This game-used jersey comes from the 1983 season, the last of his 17 campaigns in Cincinnati. Signed by Bench on the front in blue marker (PSA/DNA authentication sticker on the jersey number above the signature), the Rawlings size 44 label and "Set 1 1983" flag appears inside the front left tail. Good game use is exhibited with scattered staining and even wear throughout but especially on the Reds logo. With the jersey comes a notarized letter on how the jersey was obtained, basically stating that Reds teammate Mario Soto took it from the locker room and then claimed to the equipment manager that both his own jersey and Bench's had "disappeared." LOA from Mile High Card Company. Also comes with full letter COA from JSA.
