Before Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. could break Lou Gehrig’s historic consecutive games played streak, he would have to tie him. That’s exactly what Ripken did when he suited up for the 2,130th consecutive time on September 5th, 1995 against the California Angels. This is the very hat worn by Cal prior to the game when he tied Lou Gehrig’s historic consecutive games streak on September 5th, 1995. This all-black cap was made by New Era and is a size 7 3/8. This wool cap has a six-panel crown and black brim with the Orioles bird logo embroidered on the front in orange, black and white. The gray underside brim has Ripken’s number “8” handwritten in black marker. The back of the cap has the MLB logo embroidered in Orioles’ colors. The AUTHENTIC DIAMOND COLLECTION, NEW ERA and size tags are sewn on the white inner sweat band. The size tag on the inside has a yellow sticker clipped that reads “005.001.010 2130 cap bag22”. Ripken has signed and inscribed this cap on the top of the brim in silver marker. Ripken inscribed "2130" and "9-5-95". This cap displays light game use and comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this historic item. Full letter JSA COA.
