While 1951 is widely remembered for Bobby Thomson’s “Shot Heard ‘Round the World,” it is also notable as the last time the New York Giants and New York Yankees played a Subway Series. The Yankees defeated the cross-town rival Giants in six games to capture their 3rd straight of what would become a record five consecutive World Series titles. Another factor that made it a unique season in Bronx folklore as American League pitchers were pleased that Joe DiMaggio was in his final year in pinstripes, but they were unaware that a rookie named Mickey Mantle was a budding legend in his own right.

Offered here is an Official American League William Harridge stamped baseball that has been signed by 30 members of the 1951 World Champion New York Yankees. Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio signed his name in black pen across the sweet spot. The north panel has the signatures of Hall of Famers Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle (rookie signature), Jerry Coleman, Frank Crosetti, Jim Turner, Bobby Brown (future American League President) and Tom Heinrich. The east panel has Tom Ferrick, Charlie Silvera, Ed Lopat, Tom Morgan, Fred Sanford, two unidentified players and Johnny Hopp. The west panel with the Reach stamp has Jack Kramer, Gil McDougald, Cliff Mapes and Joe Ostrowski, along with the clubhouse signature of Casey Stengel. The south panel has the signatures of Speck Shea, Ralph Houk, Gene Woodling, Allie Reynolds, Hank Bauer, Hall of Famer Phil Rizzuto, Vic Raschi and Joe Collins. The stamped sweet spot has the signature of Tommy Byrne. This ball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
