1951 Shot Heard Round The World Giants Dodgers Signed Jersey Willie Mays Steiner

$3,495.00

The summer of 1951 featured one of the greatest comebacks in baseball history. The New York Giants overcame the Brooklyn Dodgers 13 ½ game lead on August 11th to force a three-game playoff series to decide the National League pennant winner. With the series locked up at 1-1, the two teams met at Polo Grounds on October 3rd, 1951, for the deciding game. The game was a thrilling affair, with the Dodgers scoring three in the eighth to bring a 4-1 lead into the ninth inning. The Giants quickly nabbed a run to take the game to 4-2, setting up pinch hitter Bobby Thomson with runners on second and third. Thomson took the third pitch from Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca to left field for a home run, clinching the pennant for the Giants. This home run would be immortalized as “The Shot Heard ‘Round the World”.

Presented here is a hybrid Giants and Dodgers Mitchell and Ness jersey signed by 22 members of the Giants and Dodgers.
