Presented is a Louisville Slugger Hillerich & Bradsby W183 professional model bat game-used by Boston Red Sox legend, six-time batting champion, two-time American League Most Valuable Player, and Baseball Hall of Famer, Ted Williams, from 1955 to 1957. Regarded as one of the greatest hitters in the history of baseball, "Teddy Ballgame's" illustrious 19-year career was briefly interrupted by military service during World War II and the Korean War. Despite the three-year hiatus, Williams still managed to record 521 homers and 1,839 RBIs in his career. From 1955 to 1957, Williams' age 36, 37, and 38 seasons, respectively, he batted .364 with 90 home runs and 252 RBIs in 366 combined games. In 1956, Williams became the fourth player in MLB history to hit 400 home runs. Following the 1957 MLB season, where he enjoyed one of his best seasons by leading the league in batting average (.388), on-base percentage (.526), and slugging percentage (.731), while mashing 38 homers as a 38-year-old man, Williams inked a $125,000 contract with the Red Sox, the most lucrative contract in baseball history, at the time.
The offered Louisville Slugger Hillerich & Bradsby W183 professional model bat is 35.0 inches in length, weighs 33.4 ounces, and is uncracked with evidence of outstanding use. Numerous ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible on the right, left, and back of the barrel, which is consistent with Williams alternating between a label-up and label-down batting grip throughout his career. Green bat rack marks are visible on the right, front, right barrel, and handle. The C-15A center brand on the bat consistent is with Louisville Sluggers from 1950 to 1960. Cleat impressions can be seen on all sides of the top barrel. There is a light coat of pine tar on the upper handle and center brand. The model number "W183" is stamped into the knob. Williams' number "9" is handwritten on the knob in black paint. Williams has signed the offered bat, penning his flowing signature in black marker across the barrel, including the inscription "1941-406," an homage to Williams' legendary 1941 season in which he batted .406 and was the last player in history to have hit over .400 in a season. Accompanying the bat is an LOA from PSA/DNA (1B10480), who have assessed the bat with a perfect grade of GU 10 for game use. LOA from JSA for authenticity of signature and inscription.
