“If somebody came up and hit .450, stole 100 bases and performed a miracle in the field every day, I’d still look you in the eye and say Willie was better” Hall of Fame manager Lou Durocher once remarked about Hall of Fame center fielder Willie Mays. Durocher should know, as he managed the New York/San Francisco Giants during Mays most prolific years. Spending most of his career with the Giants, Mays was selected to 20 All-Star Games, tied for second most in MLB history. Known for his leaping and diving defensive plays, the most famous of which is simply called “The Catch” where he made an over-the-shoulder catch in front of the center field wall at the Polo Grounds in Manhattan during Game 1 of the 1954 World Series against the Cleveland Indians. The 12-time Golden Glove Award winner’s 7,095 putouts are an MLB record, and the 1951 National League Rookie of the Year retired after 22 seasons with a .302 batting average with 660 home runs and 1,903 RBI. Mays was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1979.

Presented here is a five-button authentic white New York Giants Mitchell & Ness jersey that features red and black stripes on the sleeve and collar. “GIANTS” appears across the front black-on-orange tackle twill. A Cooperstown Authentic Collection Mitchell & Ness manufacturing tag rests comfortably on the left front tail of the jersey. The front right tail of the jersey is labeled “WILLIE MAYS #24 “SAY HEY KID” 24 ALL-STAR GAMES HALL OF FAME 1979 ALL-STAR EDITION 7 of 24” in black embroidery. The limited-edition, All-Star commemorative jersey is number 7 of 24 and features a 75th Anniversary of the National League patch in the shape of a diamond featuring a red glove with a baseball is sewn on to the jersey’s left sleeve. The number “24” appears across the back in black-on-orange tackle twill. The jersey is in excellent condition with no stains or signs of wear. Mays signed across the chest of the jersey with a black marker. The signed jersey comes with a COA from Beckett Authentication (D76938).
