Encapsulated with Autograph Grade 8 by Beckett (00015743887). Hall of Famer. This is an early memento of a great player who appeared on very few cards. The great Bill Russell has placed his green ink signature across the card's clean surface. The success of Russell and the Boston Celtics largely defined the NBA during his 13-year career—the dearly departed defensive stalwart and civil rights activist won 11 NBA Finals titles during his playing career, a league record. With its bold colors and stately subject depictions, the 1961-62 Fleer Basketball set is one of the most heralded productions of vintage basketball collectibles. The offered example features a crisp and clear central image of the iconic center, framed within a vivid blue backdrop. Centering is nicely calibrated, especially in respect to this infamously alignment-challenged issue, and the card's reverse is boldly printed and fully legible, with only a light measure of natural age-toning. This is a standout showcase for the striking, pronounced autograph of one of the greatest players in NBA history. Sadly, Russell passed away in 2022 at the age of 88.
