Primarily on the strength of speed, afoot these Cardinals claimed the pennant and then conquered the Red Sox that October – or, more precisely, Bob Gibson conquered the Red Sox – three complete-game victories with a 1.00 ERA. (It just ain’t fair.) Along the way that year, twenty-four of those Cardinals signed this Official National League (Giles) baseball.
