The 1969 "Miracle Mets" won the World Series, but the '70 Mets, with essentially the same team, finished in third place in the NL East with a record of 83-79. First baseman Donn Clendenon hit .288 with 22 homers and 97 RBIs, and center fielder Tommie Agee batted .286 with 24 home runs and 75 RBIs. The Mets' best pitcher in '70 was the right-handed ace, Tom Seaver, who went 18-12 with an NL leading ERA of 2.82.
The '70 Mets manager, Hall of Famer Gil Hodges, signed on the sweet spot. Other Hall of Famers are Seaver and Yogi Berra, then a Mets coach. Notables include Joey Foy, Clendenon, Danny Frisella, Agee, and Cleon Jones.
