1978 NY Yankees World Series Champs Team Signed Baseball Thurman Munson JSA COA
Simultaneously adding chapters to Bronx glory and Fenway misery, the 1978 season progressed and unveiled as though it was scripted by box office magnates in Hollywood. Mired in the throes of a mythical curse inflicted close to 60 years earlier, the Boston Red Sox were on cruise control, leading the Yanks by a seemingly insurmountable 14 games as late as July 20. Not only did the Yankees chip away at the lead, they matched their hated rivals and forced a dramatic winner-take-all one-game playoff on October 2. Unlikely longball heroics from Bucky Dent propelled the pinstripers into the playoffs and the rest was anti-climactic, culminating in a Fall Classic triumph in which a two-game deficit was wiped out by four straight wins. This baseball is autographed by (23) members of that resilient Yankee roster. The lightly toned Official American League Lee MacPhail orb is signed by: Sweet Spot: Billy Martin(manager, d.1989); North Panel: Yogi Berra (coach), Tidrow, Willie Randolph, Zeber, Blair, Healy and Figueroa; South Panel: Ron Guidry, Holtzman, Catfish Hunter (d.1999), Chambliss, Rivers (clubhouse) and Piniella; West Panel: Howard (coach, d.1980), Thurman Munson (d.1979) and Nettles; East Panel:unidentified, Eastwick, Lyle, Howser (coach, d.1987), Gullett and White; Reverse Sweet Spot: Jackson.
