After making his return to the New York Mets for the 1983 season, Hall of Famer Tom Seaver was expecting to finish out his career where it began. However, in a surprise move the Chicago White Sox claimed Seaver in the free-agent compensation draft when he was left unprotected by the Mets thinking that no other team would go after a high-priced 39-year-old pitcher. Instead of retiring, Seaver joined the White Sox, where he pitched for two-plus seasons.

This offered hat has been dated to the 1984 season, his first with the ChiSox and features “SOX” embroidered in navy on the white front crown and the inner sweat band is a brown plastic-type material. The brim is red and the back of the hat is navy. The underside of the brim is gray with dirt smudges on the outer edges. The hat shows heavy game use with discoloration on the white crown and abrasions on the brim. Seaver has signed his name in blue marker below the “SOX” and inscribed “#41” next to his signature and “Go White Sox” on the top left white crown. This hat comes with a LOA from JT Sports for the game use and a COA from Beckett Authentication (G15666) for the signature.
