Earliest Known Joe Dimaggio 1937 Single Signed Baseball To His Wife JSA COA

$4,995.00

This is a single signed Spalding Baseball signed by Joe DiMaggio to his first wife Dorothy Arnold.  It was likely given to her sometime around the time that they first met while working on the film Manhattan Merry-Go-Round in 1937. The ball is signed "To Dorothy, with best wishes and lots of luck - Joe Dimaggio" so it's likely that it was inscribed and signed early in their relationship before things got more familiar.  The ball comes with two letters of authenticity from James Spence Authentication. The first is dated from 2006 when the ball was first offered for sale in the Joe DiMaggio collection at Public Auction conducted by Hunt Auctions. The second letter of authenticity is dated October 14, 2011 and comes with certification number X32886 as well as a photo of the ball on the certificate. This number can be used to cross reference the authenticity of the ball. The third document included with this ball is a letter of provenance signed by both of Joe DiMaggio's granddaughters. This ball came directly from Joe Dimaggio's collection. The granddaughters inherited the majority of his estate because his son, Joe DiMaggio jr was a drug addict. According to JSA, as of 2006 this was the earliest known single signed ball by DiMaggio.Single signed balls that date pre World War II are very scarce This one has rock solid provenance and is a must have for the serious collector.
