A genuine rarity hits the market with this Hank O'Day twice-signed baseball. A Major League pitcher during the 1880s, O'Day also managed in the big leagues in 1912 and 1914. His main contribution to the game came as an umpire from 1894-1927, and he is known for officiating in ten World Series. Revered as a baseball lifer, "The Reverend" was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013, after being elected in 2012 by the Pre-Integration Era Committee. Given that his demise occurred in 1935, O'Day's autograph has long been unattainable and factoring in the near eighty year gap between his death and his HOF induction, we arrive at a recipe for a truly tough and desirable signature.
O'Day has twice-signed the offered game used Official National League Heydler baseball, which would be a fair prize on its own in unsigned state. The more prominent O'Day autograph resides on the east panel, directly above the printed John A. Heydler facsimile signature stamp. This prized O'Day signature displays as a single-signed example when viewed at eye level. The other O'Day autograph is located on the ball's east panel. Joining O'Day in the signing of this ball, is "dead ball" era star Mike Mitchell (d.1961). A solid batter for four different MLB squads from 1907-1914, Mitchell has signed on the west panel and sweet spot.
