Presented is a signed Rawlings Official Major League Allan H. Selig baseball used by Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson during his era-defining perfect game on May 18, 2004, when the Arizona Diamondbacks faced the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field in Atlanta. After 117 pitches, 87 of which were strikes, "The Big Unit" left a usually stout Atlanta team dazed by the sheer dominance they had just faced. Johnson absolutely outclassed the Braves' lineup from top to bottom, fanning 13 batters and sending every opposing player back to the dugout without a single batsman ever setting foot on first base. The result was a 2-0 Diamondbacks victory, and the pitching clinic earned Johnson his fourth victory of the 2004 season, as he became the oldest pitcher in Major League Baseball history to throw a perfect game at the age of 40. The masterpiece also marked the second no-hitter of Johnson's illustrious career, following his legendary June 2, 1990, no-hitter more than a decade earlier against the Detroit Tigers at The Kingdome in Seattle, in which he became the first pitcher in Mariners history to accomplish the feat.
The offered Official Major League Allan H. Selig baseball has been signed boldly on the sweet spot by Johnson in blue ink, also inscribing "17th MLB P.G." on the left panel, as well as "Game-Used vs Braves 5.18.04" on the opposite right panel, to commemorate one of the most iconic pitching performances ever to bless an MLB mound. The baseball exhibits natural age discoloration, scuffing, and staining accumulated during game use. Affixed to the item is an MLB Authenticated Hologram (MR546279) for game use and a Beckett Witness sticker (4W559615) for signature authentication.
