Joe Medwick was one of the most feared and accomplished hitters of the pre-war era, known for his combination of power, consistency, and competitive fire. A key member of the legendary St. Louis Cardinals “Gashouse Gang” of the 1930s, Medwick helped lead the Cardinals to the 1934 World Series title and developed into one of the National League’s premier offensive forces.

The pinnacle of Medwick’s career came in 1937 when he captured the National League Triple Crown, leading the league in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in — a feat no NL hitter has repeated since — and was subsequently named the National League Most Valuable Player.

Over his 17 year Major League career, Medwick compiled a lifetime .324 batting average, amassed over 2,400 hits and 1,300 RBIs, and was selected to 10 All-Star teams. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1968, cementing his legacy among the game’s greats.

Medwick’s bold, original signature on a multi-page hotel receipt from Cooperstown exhibits slight period wear consistent with age however it is a rare signer document, outside standard photos and postcards and a direct connection to one of baseball’s most iconic figures and significant statistical achievers.
