In comparison to the greatest quarterbacks in pro football history Joe Namath's stats look fairly pedestrian, but there's no denying his leadership qualities on the field. After leading the Alabama Crimson Tide to a national championship in 1964, Namath won the AFL ROY award in 1965. A few years later, Namath's AFL New York Jets found themselves in a position to face the vaunted NFL Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. At a pre-game festivity "Broadway Joe" provided the most famous guarantee the world of sports has ever heard, with a bold prediction of victory over the Colts. On 1/12/69 at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Namath put his money where his mouth was, in a 16-7 triumph that saw him named the MVP of SB III.
