Cincinnati Reds catcher Johnny Bench was the engine that made the "Big Red Machine" run. An adept fielder with a thunderous bat, Bench took home a pair of National League Most Valuable Player awards (1970, 1972) and led the Reds to World Series titles in 1975 and 1976, winning the World Series MVP trophy in '76. Despite retiring in 1983, Bench has hit the third-most home runs by a catcher in MLB history.
