Jordan averaged eight assists and eight rebounds per game, with both numbers representing career-best marks for the former Tar Heel. He averaged 2.9 steals per game with his swarming defense from the two-guard position, earning a spot on both the All-NBA First Team and the All-NBA Defensive First Team. While Magic Johnson was named the NBA MVP, Jordan took home the 1988-89 Sporting News Most Valuable Player Award.
