Mickey Mantle Signed 1961 World Series Type 1 Sports Illustrated Photo PSA DNA

Original 9" x 13" large format Type I photo signed by Mickey Mantle and Yankees manager Ralph Houk in blue ballpoint. Both men have inscribed the photo with Mantle adding his "Best Wishes" and Houk his "Best Regards" prior to adding their signatures below. Double weight photo offers an extraordinary portrait image of a 29-year-old Mickey Mantle following one of the most storied seasons on record in the Bronx. Mantle and Maris jockeyed for the home run lead most of the way in '61 until the Mick was ultimately sidelined in September. This allowed Maris to pull ahead late, surpassing Babe Ruth's single-season home run record of 60 on October 1, 1961, the final day of their campaign. According to information supplied on verso, the image was captured by Sports Illustrated photographer Herb Scharfman during Game 3 of the 1961 World Series on October 7, 1961 in Cincinnati.
