Offered here is an official vintage American League (Joe Cronin) baseball bearing the signature of Harry Truman, the 33rd President of the United States. (He inscribed the date—"8-7-63"—is written below the autograph.) The side-panel, fountain-pen scripting projects nicely against the sphere's flattering, mildly toned surface. Truman (1884-1972) presided over the difficult period after World War II and the death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He led the nation from 1945 to 1953, navigating the country through the Korean War and the ongoing effort toward containment of Communism. This ball represents a particularly fitting memento of Truman; he attended no less than 16 ballgames, all in Washington, D.C., as a sitting president, and once remarked, "May the sun never set on American baseball." The attractively signed, red-laced ball features clean surfaces and fully legible Official stampings. Full LOA from JSA for the signature accompanies (ZZ53374).
