Original painting by artist Ed LoPere featuring Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe, signed by Joe DiMaggio. The painting depicts the famous image of the two during the premier of Monroe's movie The Seven Year Itch in 1955. Joe DiMaggio has signed the painting in black Sharpie across Monroe's image. Any Joe DiMaggio signed item relating to, or featuring the likeness of Marilyn Monroe is extremely rare, as DiMaggio vehemently refused to sign such pieces, even at paid signing shows. This piece was no exception, and the manner in which it was signed was due to the use of subterfuge on the part of the original owner. DiMaggio originally signed only a blank exposed section of canvas and the painting was then later executed around his signature. It was in that manner that a number of such items came to be signed by DiMaggio over the years (he eventually caught on to such tricks and was later very wary about signing blank pieces). Signed by the artist in the lower left. The painting (14.25 x 17.25 inches, visible dimensions) remains in apparent Near Mint condition and has been framed to total dimensions of 25 x 27.25 inches.
