Roger Maris Playing Days Single Signed 1961 American League Baseball Beckett COA
Even during his famed home run race with Mickey Mantle in 1961, Roger Maris was not typically known as a prolific autograph signer, instead preferring to stay out of the limelight. It didn't help that he was side-eyed by much of the Bronx faithful who saw Mantle as the "true Yankee" worthy of unseating Ruth as the single-season home run king. Maris's passing at just 51 years old further limits the quantity of elite single-signed baseballs like this Official American League (Cronin) sphere, autographed by Roger Maris. The grade of 8 is impressive, but really doesn't do the penning justice as the blue ballpoint pen signature goes from stitch to stitch and completely takes up the width of the side panel with bright blue ballpoint pen ink. A fantastic example of a rather elusive item. LOA from Beckett.
