Unique Pittsburgh Pirates team-signed baseball commemorating an exhibition game between the Pirates and the Terre Haute Tots of the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League on August 2, 1935. Seventeen blue fountain-pen signatures adorn the Gold Smith "Official League Ball," the majority of which are those of Pirates players, including Honus Wagner (coach), Paul Waner, Lloyd Waner, Arky Vaughan, Pie Traynor (player/manager), Gus Suhr, Woody Jensen, Cookie Lavagetto, Mace Brown, Earl Grace, and Pep Young. Among the Terre Haute signatures is that of Paul "Dizzy" Trout, who would soon go on to enjoy an outstanding Major League pitching career with the Detroit Tigers. Terre Haute was a class B club, but they brought their "AAA" game that day based upon the written notations on the sweet spot that read "Exhibition Game/August 2nd 1935/Terre Haute 8 Pittsburgh 7." The Pirates played the Cubs in Chicago on August 1st and had an off day before playing the Cardinals in St. Louis on August 3rd, therefore a stop in Terre Haute on August 2nd was convenient.
