The Yanks were coming off an unprecedented fourth consecutive World Championship to find themselves locked in a wild shootout for the AL crown. Only two games separated the Yankees, Tigers, and Indians at season’s end, and Hank Greenberg’s bat simply overpowered Bob Feller and Joe DiMaggio, all of whom notched career-defining seasons. Twenty-five members of that Yankee team engaged in that epic battle have signed this Official American League (Harridge) baseball. Included are Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey ,Red Ruffing (who signed “Chas. Ruffing”, Joe Gordon, Lefty Gomez, Joe McCarthy is on sweet spot of ball ball), plus George Selkirk, Frank Crosetti, Oral Hildebrand, Steve Sundra, Babe Dahlgren, Atley Donald, Monte Pearson, Buddy Rosar, Charlie Keller,Hoot Pearson, Marius Russo, Jake Powell, Arthur Fletcher, Tommy Henrich, Red Rolfe, Buddy Rosar, Bill Knickerbocker, Jake Powell, Johnny Murphy, The majority of the signatures on this relic from baseball’s most collected team are clear and legible; it would certainly be tough to find another 1940 baseball with this many signatures. The ball is postmarked September 13, 1940 and has a Baseball Centennial 1939 Stamp on it. There are NO clubhouse signatures on the ball, all are authentic including Joe Mccarthy.
